CBD and its forms

Cannabis sativa

Cannabis sativa

Cannabidiol (pronounced ca-nuh-bi-DYE-ol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the cannabis sativa plant. It is mostly found on the leaves and flowers of the plant within glands called trichomes along with over 100 other identified cannabinoids.

Full Spectrum CBD: An oil still containing most of the natural components of the hemp plant. These oils will generally still have small amounts of THC but will have the undesirable fats and waxes removed.

Broad Spectrum CBD: Mostly the same as Full Spectrum but it has gone through additional processing to remove the THC.

These two types make up the majority of products on the market as they still contain the other minor cannabinoids that are also found in hemp such as cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabichromene (CBC). These extracts also contain varying levels of terpenes based on the strain of plant and the method of extraction. Terpenes, while possibly having therapeutic benefits, are more known for giving plants their scents and flavors. A couple common ones are limonene, found in citrus plants, or pinene found in pine trees both of which are also found in hemp.

The last common form of CBD is called CBD Isolate. Isolate is the most pure form of CBD. It is made by separating CBD crystals from the rest of the plant components and can be up to 99.5% CBD.
